Büyük otogar Esenler - Istanbul’s largest bus station,
This is where the most buses stop in Turkey.
The bus station is accessible from Atatürk airport by taking the Hafif-Metro.
Don’t think about dragging luggage around. Go across the street and past the parking area to the ticket booths on the opposite side of the metro station.
There are buses to everywhere in the country on a routine basis. The bus route system is very good across the whole country and the buses are very modern, comfortable and air-conditioned.
It is possible to buy tickets shortly before departure at large bus stations.
The cost of an approximately 250 km journey is around €12.
Women can also travel alone very safely on these buses. When buying tickets you are asked whether you would like to sit next to a man or a woman, so as a woman you need not sit next to a stranger.
The buses are punctual to the minute. When your ticket is checked on the bus you are asked by an employee where you would like to get off and this is noted on a list. Therefore the bus will be certain to stop where you want to get off, regardless of whether it’s a hotel or a bus station.
In terms of safety you can breathe easy on Turkish buses: black boxes, regular rest stops, the latest safety features and a double crew ensure a safe journey.
If you are travelling with, for example, Volkan Ulusoy, the buses operating on long journeys are very new. You are served drinks and small snacks and there are planned regular breaks at rest stops.
So have a good trip!
