Things to see and do (Mumbai (Bombay))

Monday November 15, 2010 at 2:55PM from Sabine K.
Things to see and do, Chowpatty Beach

First recommended stop is the Gateway of India arch – the spot where British dignitaries arriving by sea were welcomed to India. Boats also leave from the arch to Elephanta Island, whose caves date to seventh- and eighth-century Hindu dynasties. Ferry tickets cost around 120 Rs and admission is 250 Rs.

Take a stroll in the heart of the financial district where you’ll find Flora Fountain, the Town Hall and other fine examples of Victorian architecture built during the British Raj.

Chowpatty Beach is one of the city's best people-watching spots and draws walkers in the early morning and evening.

Other places to visit include the Gandhi Museum, the Hanging Gardens in Malabar and numerous temples spread throughout the city.
