General tips ,
I visited Barcelona from the 13th - 14th of June in 2009.
I highly recommend the BARCELONA CARD, which you can order online and pick up from the tourist info desk and at other locations. The card cost €26.00 per person for two days, and it covered all trips with bus, metro and the Barcelona airport train. The ticket also gives you a number of discount deals in restaurants, cafés, bars, museums, tourist attractions, … The airport bus is not included, but the airport train is.
It is very important to keep in mind that if you want to travel from the central station to the airport, you should not rely on the information displayed on the television screens hanging in the station. We nearly boarded the wrong train travelling in some other direction.
The correct train departed from platform 9, and the trip took around 15-20 minutes (however, I can’t promise that the train leaves from that platform every day).
It was especially nice at the harbour, and we even managed to eat there relatively cheaply. However, the famous “Mare Magnum” shopping centre wasn’t as “magnum” as its name would have you believe…
We stayed at a hostel, the Universitaria Residencia BCN, which is a super modern, clean hostel. We paid €30.00 per person per night for a twin share room. It was modern and recently renovated, very clean and the breakfast buffet was amazing! It was located a little far from the centre, but you could get to all the important places quickly with the metro. Therefore, I would only recommend it for those travelling on a budget.
We also did a touristic bus tour. It was quite expensive at €21.00/day/person, but you could disembark whenever and wherever you wanted. There are three lines that genuinely cover all the attractions in the city.
